Formula and methodology
Formula: Slope length = √(half-span²+rise²); roof length including end overhang = building length+2×overhang; two-slope area = 2×roof length×slope length; order area = area×(1+waste/100); material cost = order area×unit price.
The model describes a symmetric two-plane gable roof and keeps slope geometry separate from the purchasing allowance and local price. It does not estimate framing, fasteners, trim, penetrations, snow or wind resistance, or a roofing system specification.

Assumptions and limits
- The roof has two equal planar slopes and the horizontal half-span reaches from eave to ridge.
