Formula and methodology
Formula: Weekly MET-minutes = MET value × minutes per session × sessions per week.
MET-minutes combine exercise intensity and time into one volume measure. A 30-minute activity at 5 METs contributes 150 MET-minutes, while the same 30 minutes at 3 METs contributes 90; the number is a planning and comparison measure, not a diagnosis or guarantee of health benefit.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Activity intensity — METs; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000
- Minutes per session — min; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 100000
- Sessions per week — sessions; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 10000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Activity intensity | 5 |
| Minutes per session | 30 |
| Sessions per week | 5 |
Five 30-minute sessions at 5 METs equal 750 MET-minutes per week and 150 active minutes.
Assumptions and limits
- The selected MET value reasonably represents the activity and effort level for the sessions being counted.
- Every listed session has the same duration and intensity; mixed-intensity weeks should be calculated as separate rows and added.
- Public-health activity guidance varies by population and condition, so the output should not be treated as a personal medical prescription.
