Formula and methodology
Formula: Gb/s = Mb/s ÷ 1,000; MB/s = Mb/s ÷ 8; GB/s = Mb/s ÷ 8,000; bit/s = Mb/s × 1,000,000.
The converter keeps bits and bytes separate and uses decimal network prefixes. It shows several equivalent rate labels so visitors can compare an internet plan, a device specification, or a file-transfer estimate without confusing a rate with a storage amount.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Megabits per second — Mb/s; minimum 0; maximum 1000000000000000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Megabits per second | 1000 |
1,000 Mb/s = 1 Gb/s = 125 MB/s = 0.125 GB/s = 1,000,000,000 bit/s.
Assumptions and limits
- Mega means 10⁶ and giga means 10⁹ in this network-rate conversion.
- One byte contains eight bits.
- The input is a data-transfer rate, not a file size or monthly data allowance.
- No protocol, encryption, congestion, Wi-Fi, hardware, or service-provider overhead is estimated.
- The displayed values are mathematically equivalent rates and do not predict observed throughput.
- Decimal SI prefixes are used consistently for Mb/s, Gb/s, MB/s, and GB/s.
- Zero is a valid rate and returns zero in every output.
- Any time-to-transfer estimate requires a separate data amount and duration.
