Formula and methodology
Formula: Use place values 1, 20, 360, 7,200, 144,000, and so on; divide by the largest place value and keep each remainder as a digit from 0 through 19.
The Maya used a vigesimal system with a zero and positional notation. This educational converter uses the calendar-style place sequence documented for the priestly system: the third place is 18×20 rather than 20², and later places multiply by 20 again.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Decimal integer — Use a whole number. The converter uses the documented Maya calendar place values.; minimum 0; maximum 1000000000000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Decimal integer | 1253912 |
Digits from highest place to units: 8; 14; 3; 1; 12. The calendar-style expansion is 8×144,000 + 14×7,200 + 3×360 + 1×20 + 12.
Assumptions and limits
- The input is a non-negative whole number and is interpreted in the Maya calendar-style place-value system.
- A digit is shown as dots for values 1–4, bars for groups of five, and a shell marker for zero; this text notation is a readable approximation of the glyph layout.
- The converter does not identify a historical date, calendar cycle, language pronunciation, or archaeological inscription.
