Formula and methodology
Formula: Board feet per piece = thickness(in) × width(in) × length(ft) ÷ 12; cubic feet = total board feet ÷ 12.
A board foot is a conventional lumber-volume unit equal to a one-foot-long, one-foot-wide, one-inch-thick volume. The calculator applies the standard dimensional formula per piece, multiplies by the whole-piece count, and also shows the equivalent volume in cubic feet and cubic metres.
