Formula and methodology
Formula: From the right, double every other digit, subtract nine when the result exceeds nine, and require the total modulo 10 to equal zero.
The page exposes the checksum result and a generated final digit for the entered payload; it does not identify an account or authorize a transaction.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Digits — Digits may include spaces or hyphens.
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Digits | 79927398713 |
The string is valid under Luhn; the check digit for payload 7992739871 is 3.
Assumptions and limits
- The input contains at least two decimal digits after separators are removed.
- Luhn validity only detects many transcription errors and does not prove that an identifier exists.
- The implementation follows the common mod-10 arrangement used for digit strings.
