Formula and methodology
Formula: Align place values from the right; borrow 10 from the next place whenever a top digit is smaller than the corresponding bottom digit.
Long subtraction works one place at a time from right to left. The calculator preserves the integer as text, performs the borrowing logic explicitly, and reports a negative result when the subtrahend is larger.
