Formula and methodology
Formula: KE = 0.5 * m * v^2.
Kinetic energy grows with the square of speed, so doubling speed quadruples energy. The sign of velocity does not matter because it is squared.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Mass — kg; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000000
- Speed — m/s; Sign is ignored because velocity is squared.; minimum -1000000; maximum 1000000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Mass | 70 |
| Speed | 3 |
315 J
Assumptions and limits
- Classical speeds far below light speed.
- Mass is positive; SI units give joules.
- Rotational energy is excluded; this is translational kinetic energy only.
