Formula and methodology
Formula: For a rating gap below 40, a win gives opponent rating + 50, a tie gives opponent rating, and a loss gives opponent rating − 50. At a gap of 40 or more, the published stronger/weaker branches apply; updated rating = (old rating × matches + match points) ÷ (matches + 1).
This page is a one-match ranking scenario. It shows the branch selected by the rating gap, the match points earned, and the updated average from supplied pre-match values without claiming to fetch the current live table.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Team 1 current rating — rating points; minimum 100; maximum 1000
- Opponent current rating — rating points; minimum 100; maximum 1000
- Team 1 matches already represented — matches; minimum 0; maximum 1000
- Team 1 match result — 3 choices
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Team 1 current rating | 250 |
| Opponent current rating | 230 |
| Team 1 matches already represented | 10 |
| Team 1 match result | win |
The gap is below 40, so Team 1 receives 280 match points and its new rating is 252.7273.
Assumptions and limits
- The entered ratings are the pre-match ratings for the same ranking format and eligible teams.
- The result is interpreted from Team 1's perspective.
- A tie represents the tie/no-result branch for this scenario and does not model competition-specific abandoned-match details.
- The current rating is treated as total points divided by the supplied number of matches.
- The calculation does not fetch live rankings, annual weighting, eligibility, series rules, or official publication status.
- A 40-point gap uses the far-gap branch; a gap below 40 uses the close-match branch.
- The result is a transparent scenario estimate, not an official ranking position.
