Formula and methodology
Formula: sinh(x) = (eˣ − e⁻ˣ)/2; cosh(x) = (eˣ + e⁻ˣ)/2; tanh(x) = sinh(x)/cosh(x).
Hyperbolic functions are built from exponentials rather than circular angles. The reciprocal outputs csch, sech, and coth are included where defined, with coth at zero reported as undefined instead of silently producing an infinite value.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Real input x — minimum -20; maximum 20
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Real input x | 1 |
sinh(1) ≈ 1.175201; cosh(1) ≈ 1.543081
Assumptions and limits
- The input is real and bounded to keep exponential results finite and readable.
- The functions use radians-like real arguments; no angle-unit conversion is applied.
- Csch and coth are undefined at x = 0, while sech remains defined there.
