Formula and methodology
Formula: Force = effective mass × acceleration; impulse = force × contact time; velocity change = acceleration × contact time; kinetic energy = ½ × effective mass × velocity change².
Punching involves a changing force over time, but a simple mechanics model can still show how effective mass, acceleration, and contact duration relate. This page intentionally labels the output as an estimate and reports impulse and velocity change so force is not treated as the only meaningful quantity.

Assumptions and limits
- Effective mass is the portion of the moving system represented by the one-dimensional model, not necessarily body mass or fist mass.
- Acceleration is treated as constant over the entered contact interval.
- The reported force is an average model force, not a measured peak force-time signal.
- The motion is treated in one dimension and direction changes are ignored.
- The kinetic-energy output uses the model velocity change from rest and does not describe tissue damage or target response.
- Real measurement requires calibrated instrumentation, geometry, technique, impact compliance, and a defined force-time window.
