Formula and methodology
Formula: Pout = hp × 745.699872 W; Pin = Pout/η; I = Pin/(V·pf) for single phase or Pin/(√3·V·pf) for balanced three phase.
A motor's horsepower rating describes mechanical output, while the electrical current depends on voltage, power factor, and efficiency. This calculator first converts horsepower to mechanical watts, backs up to electrical input power, and then applies the selected phase relationship.

- Efficiency and power factor are entered operating estimates; starting current, overload, harmonics, voltage drop, and motor nameplate limits are not modeled.
