Formula and methodology
Formula: Tables needed = ceiling(guests ÷ seats per table); seats provided = tables × seats per table; unused seats = seats provided − guests.
The tool rounds up because a partial table cannot seat a guest. It exposes the spare-seat result so a planner can compare a tight seating layout with a more comfortable or accessible arrangement.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Guests — guests; minimum 0; maximum 10000000
- Seats per table — seats; minimum 1; maximum 1000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Guests | 48 |
| Seats per table | 8 |
6 tables provide 48 seats, with 0 unused seats and 100% modeled occupancy.
Assumptions and limits
- Every table has the same usable seat count.
- Guests and seats per table are whole numbers, and seats per table is at least one.
- Guests are assigned to tables without splitting the capacity of a table.
- No table is removed for food service, accessibility, children, staff, or room layout.
- The result is a capacity worksheet, not a venue occupancy approval or floor plan.
- A zero-guest scenario returns zero tables and zero occupancy.
