Formula and methodology
Formula: Digest bits = hexadecimal character count × 4; possible algorithms are shortlisted by common digest length, not uniquely identified.
Hash strings often look alike. The page validates hexadecimal form, normalizes presentation, converts characters to bits, and names algorithms that can produce that length. It explicitly warns that length alone cannot prove the algorithm.
