Formula and methodology
Formula: Fine-gold mass = item weight × purity/100; melt value = fine-gold mass × fine-gold price per gram; estimated offer = melt value × (1 − buyer discount/100).
Melt value separates the mass of an item from the fine-gold content and the visitor-supplied reference price. The optional discount shows how an offer below theoretical melt value would change the estimate. This page does not fetch a live market price, grade gemstones, value craftsmanship, determine a hallmark, or predict a dealer’s actual offer.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Item weight — g; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000000
- Gold purity — %; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 100
- Fine-gold price — currency/g; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- Buyer discount from melt value — %; minimum 0; maximum 100
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Item weight | 31.1035 |
| Gold purity | 75 |
| Fine-gold price | 70 |
| Buyer discount from melt value | 0 |
Fine-gold mass = 23.3276 g and theoretical melt value = 1,632.93 currency units before any discount or non-gold deductions.
Assumptions and limits
- Weight is entered in grams and purity is a percentage of fine gold by mass.
- The fine-gold price is a visitor-supplied reference price per gram in the chosen currency and time.
- The item is treated as homogeneous for this arithmetic; stones, solder, plating, clips, and non-gold parts are not separated.
- The buyer discount is an explicit scenario percentage and is not a market quote, fee schedule, tax rule, or appraisal.
- The result does not establish authenticity, legal ownership, investment value, collectible value, or a guaranteed sale price.
- Use a current trusted price source and an independent professional assessment for a real transaction.
