Formula and methodology
Formula: Geometric mean = exp((sum of natural logs of values) / number of values).
The geometric mean is the multiplicative counterpart to the arithmetic mean. Positive values are accumulated in log space, which avoids multiplying the entire list directly.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Positive values — Enter 1-1,000 positive numbers separated by commas or spaces.
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Positive values | 2, 8 |
Geometric mean 4.
Assumptions and limits
- Every value is positive, finite, and measured on a scale where multiplication is meaningful.
- All values receive equal weight; zeros, negative values, and weighted observations are outside this contract.
