Formula and methodology
Formula: Projected annual pay = current annual pay × (1 + annual change rate)^years; total nominal change = projected pay − current pay.
This is a compound-growth scenario for a stated annual pay amount. Each year applies the same percentage change to the previous year’s projected pay, so a positive rate compounds and a negative rate compounds downward. It is deliberately a nominal arithmetic model: it does not predict a job offer, promotion, taxes, benefits, inflation-adjusted purchasing power, exchange rates, or a country’s wage rules.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Current annual pay — currency units per year; minimum 0.01; maximum 1000000000
- Annual increase or decrease — % per year; minimum -99; maximum 100
- Years — years; minimum 0; maximum 60
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Current annual pay | 50000 |
| Annual increase or decrease | 3 |
| Years | 10 |
At a constant 3% annual increase, 50,000 becomes about 67,195.82 after 10 years before taxes, inflation, benefits, or job changes.
Assumptions and limits
- The current pay and projected pay use the same currency and annual-pay definition.
- The entered percentage repeats once per year and is applied to the prior projected amount.
- A zero-year horizon returns the current pay without any change.
- The model has no promotions, job changes, unemployment, bonuses, benefits, deductions, tax, or inflation adjustment.
- The result is a scenario value and not a prediction of an employer’s future compensation decision.
- For comparisons across countries, convert currencies and define whether pay is gross, net, hourly, monthly, or annual before entering it.
