Formula and methodology
Formula: Bin index=floor((value−minimum)/bin width); frequency is the count in each equal-width interval.
The first interval begins at the smallest observed value and each later interval has the selected width.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Data values — Enter 2 to 200 finite numbers separated by commas or spaces.
- Bin width — minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Data values | 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12 |
| Bin width | 5 |
Bins [2,7): 3; [7,12): 4; [12,17): 1.
Assumptions and limits
- The input contains 2 to 200 finite values and bin width is positive.
- Intervals are left-closed and right-open except that the largest observed value is included in its computed bin.
- Weighted observations, missing values, and an externally prescribed class origin are not modeled.
