Formula and methodology
Formula: Dose per flight = flight hours × average effective dose rate × (1 − additional reduction percentage ÷ 100). Cumulative dose = dose per flight × number of flights. Millisieverts = microsieverts ÷ 1,000.
This is a user-entered exposure scenario, not the FAA CARI model and not a medical risk calculator. Actual aviation dose varies with altitude, latitude, route, solar activity, flight profile, and the definition of the supplied effective dose rate.

- The dose rate is an average effective dose rate for the same type of flight scenario.
- Hours and dose rate refer to the airborne interval being modeled.
- The rate is already in microsieverts per hour and is not inferred from a country or aircraft type.
- Comparable flights use the same average-rate assumption unless the visitor changes it.
- The optional reduction is a scenario input and may already be accounted for in a supplied rate.
- Altitude profile, latitude, route, solar cycle, shielding, and seat position are not modeled separately.
- Effective dose is a protection quantity and is not the same as a personal health outcome.
- The calculation does not diagnose, regulate, or approve occupational exposure.
- Pregnancy, occupational monitoring, and medical questions require qualified guidance.
