Formula and methodology
Formula: Nominal flow Q = K√P, where K is the entered flow coefficient and P is residual pressure in bar.
The square-root pressure relationship is useful for a quick flow-test scenario when a coefficient has already been established for the outlet or test method.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Flow coefficient — L/min/√bar; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- Residual pressure — bar; minimum 0; maximum 10000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Flow coefficient | 100 |
| Residual pressure | 3 |
Nominal flow = 173.205 L/min, or 10.392 m³/h.
Assumptions and limits
- The coefficient is supplied for the specific outlet, nozzle, or test convention and is not inferred by this page.
- Pressure is gauge pressure in bar and the output is a nominal flow estimate in litres per minute.
- This is not a fire-protection demand calculation, pump selection, hydrant approval, sprinkler design, or code-compliance result.
