Formula and methodology
Formula: boards = ceil(lengthFt x 12 / (boardIn + gapIn)).
Converts feet to inches, divides by one board-plus-gap pitch, and rounds up. A half-inch gap on 6-inch boards needs 185 pickets per 100 feet.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Fence length — ft; minimum 0; maximum 1000000000
- Board width — in; Must be greater than zero.; minimum 0; maximum 1000000
- Gap between boards — in; Zero means boards touch.; minimum 0; maximum 1000000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
