Formula and methodology
Formula: Annual gap = max(0, 12 × (monthly spending − monthly other income)); target portfolio = annual gap ÷ withdrawal rate; future savings use compound growth and monthly contributions bridge the difference.
The calculator turns a retirement goal into a scenario: it estimates the annual spending gap, a portfolio target from the withdrawal rate you choose, the future value of current savings, and a monthly contribution for the remaining gap. The assumptions are intentionally visible because inflation, fees, taxes, returns, longevity, and withdrawal flexibility can change a real plan.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.

- The withdrawal rate is supplied by the visitor and is not presented as a safe or guaranteed rate.
- Inflation, taxes, fees, market volatility, pensions, health costs, and investment suitability are not modeled.
