Formula and methodology
Formula: cooked weight=dry weight×cooked-to-dry yield factor.
Pasta absorbs water during cooking, so the cooked weight is greater than the dry weight. The yield factor lets you model the pasta shape and preferred doneness rather than presenting one false universal number.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Dry pasta weight (g) — minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- Cooked-to-dry yield factor — minimum 1; maximum 5
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Dry pasta weight (g) | 100 |
| Cooked-to-dry yield factor | 2.25 |
100 g dry pasta → 225 g cooked pasta estimate.
Assumptions and limits
- The yield factor is a planning estimate for the selected pasta and cooking method.
- Water absorbed during cooking is treated as added mass; drained water is excluded.
- Sauce, oil, and toppings are not included.
