Formula and methodology
Formula: Dividend per share = total dividend per payment ÷ shares receiving the payment; annualized DPS = payment DPS × payments per year.
The calculator turns a declared distribution into a per-share amount and shows the annualized result under the entered payment schedule. It does not predict future distributions or calculate dividend yield because share price is not an input here.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Total dividends per payment period — currency; minimum 0; maximum 1000000000000000000
- Shares receiving the payment — shares; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000000000000000
- Payments per year — payments/year; minimum 1; maximum 366
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Total dividends per payment period | 250000 |
| Shares receiving the payment | 100000 |
| Payments per year | 4 |
Dividend per share = 2.50 per payment and 10.00 per year at the entered schedule.
Assumptions and limits
- The dividend amount and share count refer to the same payment record and eligible share class.
- The payment schedule is stable for the annualized scenario.
- Fractional shares can be entered for a mathematical scenario, although a real issuer may use record-date and eligibility rules.
- Dividend taxes, ex-dividend dates, reinvestment, withholding, and future declarations are not modeled.
