Formula and methodology
Formula: factor = (1 - discountPercent / 100) x (1 - additionalPercent / 100); final price = originalPrice x factor; savings = originalPrice x (1 - factor); effective discount = (1 - factor) x 100.
After a 20% reduction, a further 10% discount applies only to the remaining 80%, so the combined reduction is 28%, not 30%. A zero additional percentage handles a single discount. The effective percentage describes the configured reduction even when the original price is zero.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Original price — minimum 0; maximum 1000000000000
- First discount — %; minimum 0; maximum 100
- Additional sequential discount — %; Applied to the reduced price. Enter zero for just one discount.; minimum 0; maximum 100
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Original price | 200 |
| First discount | 20 |
| Additional sequential discount | 10 |
Discounted price: 144.00; total savings: 56.00; effective discount: 28.00%.
Assumptions and limits
- Two percentage discounts apply sequentially to the remaining price; neither represents a fixed-amount coupon, rebate, or cash-back offer.
- Both percentages are between zero and 100. A 100% discount leaves a zero price, and a zero additional discount represents a single reduction.
- All amounts use one consistent currency before taxes and fees; no intermediate currency rounding or retailer-specific stacking rule is assumed.
