Formula and methodology
Formula: Base diapers = babies × days × planned changes per baby per day; planned diapers = ceiling(base diapers × (1 + buffer/100)); packs = ceiling(planned diapers ÷ pack size); average planned daily supply = planned diapers ÷ days.
This is a purchasing and inventory estimate. The daily change rate is deliberately an editable planning input because age, feeding, health, reusable products, childcare routines, and caregiver preference change the real count. The page does not use diaper counts to judge feeding, hydration, illness, or a child’s health.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Babies or children using this supply — people; minimum 1; maximum 1000000
- Supply duration — days; minimum 1; maximum 3650
- Planned changes per baby per day — changes/person/day; minimum 0; maximum 1000
- Spare supply allowance — %; minimum 0; maximum 500
- Diapers per pack — diapers/pack; minimum 1; maximum 1000000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Babies or children using this supply | 1 |
| Supply duration | 30 |
| Planned changes per baby per day | 8 |
| Spare supply allowance | 10 |
| Diapers per pack | 60 |
The base need is 240 diapers; with a 10% allowance plan for 264 diapers, or 5 packs of 60.
Assumptions and limits
- The entered change rate is a supply-planning assumption, not a medical target or a monitoring threshold.
- Every listed user is modeled with the same daily rate for the entire period.
- The buffer is applied before the diaper count is rounded up to whole units and packs.
- Pack size is treated as the actual number of usable diapers in one package.
- Reusable diapers, wipes, creams, laundering, storage, size changes, leakage, and brand fit are outside the arithmetic.
- Follow current pediatric or public-health advice for infant care, and seek care for concerns rather than relying on a supply estimate.
- The page does not calculate feeding, urine output, stool frequency, dehydration, or diagnosis.
