Formula and methodology
Formula: mass = density × volume; volume in cubic metres = litres/1000.
Density is mass per unit volume, so rearranging ρ=m/V gives m=ρV. The calculator accepts a convenient litre input, converts it to cubic metres, and returns mass in kilograms and grams. It does not identify a material or adjust density for temperature, pressure, porosity, or composition.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Density — kg/m³; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000000000
- Volume — L; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000000000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Density | 1000 |
| Volume | 1 |
Mass = 1 kg = 1,000 g for 1 L at 1,000 kg/m³.
Assumptions and limits
- Density is uniform throughout the entered volume and uses kg/m³.
- The volume is a geometric or measured volume of the material being weighed, not a container's outside volume unless that is what the user intends.
- Temperature, pressure, voids, moisture, and mixture composition are not inferred.
