Formula and methodology
Formula: V = π(d/2)²h; density ρ = m/V.
This geometry-specific tool first calculates the volume enclosed by a solid cylinder and then divides mass by that volume. It is useful when the object’s dimensions are known but a generic mass-volume-density solver is too abstract; it does not infer the material or evaluate a hollow cylinder’s wall volume.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Mass — kg; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000000000
- Cylinder diameter — m; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- Cylinder height — m; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Mass | 1 |
| Cylinder diameter | 1 |
| Cylinder height | 1 |
A 1 kg, 1 m diameter, 1 m high solid cylinder has volume π/4 m³ and density about 1.273 kg/m³.
Assumptions and limits
- The cylinder is treated as a uniform solid with diameter and height measured in metres.
- The entered mass represents the same physical volume calculated from the outside dimensions.
- A hollow cylinder, porous object, coating, filler, or nonuniform assembly should use its actual material volume rather than this solid-cylinder envelope.
