Formula and methodology
Formula: DLI = PPFD x hours x 3,600 / 1,000,000, in mol/m^2/day.
Daily light integral converts a constant or average photosynthetic photon flux density into the total photosynthetic photon amount received over a day. It is a measurement conversion, not a universal plant-care prescription.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Average PPFD — umol/m^2/s; minimum 0; maximum 1000000
- Lighted hours per day — hours; minimum 0; maximum 24
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Average PPFD | 400 |
| Lighted hours per day | 12 |
Daily light integral is 17.28 mol/m^2/day.
Assumptions and limits
- PPFD is an average over the illuminated interval and uses micromol/m^2/s.
- The light level is treated as constant during the entered hours.
- Plant species, spectrum, canopy geometry, sensor placement, and growth recommendations are outside the calculation.
