Formula and methodology
Formula: Stacked volume = length × height × depth; standard cord equivalents = stacked volume ÷ 128 ft³; estimated purchase amount = cord equivalents × entered price per cord.
A standard cord describes the space occupied by a well-stacked pile, including air gaps, bark, and wood. The calculator uses the entered pile dimensions and reports a cord equivalent; it does not turn that space into a solid-wood volume or a heat-content estimate.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Stack length — ft; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- Stack height — ft; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- Stack depth — ft; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- Price per standard cord — currency/cord; minimum 0; maximum 1000000000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Stack length | 8 |
| Stack height | 4 |
| Stack depth | 4 |
| Price per standard cord | 300 |
The pile occupies 128 ft³, equals 1 standard cord, and has an entered purchase estimate of 300 currency units.
Assumptions and limits
- The pile is represented by a rectangular bounding volume measured in feet.
- One standard cord is treated as 128 cubic feet of ranked and well-stowed space.
- The pile is sufficiently stacked for a volume comparison; random loose piles can contain a different proportion of air.
- The price applies to one standard cord equivalent and uses one currency.
- Species, moisture content, piece length, stacking quality, heating value, delivery, taxes, and local sale regulations are not modeled.
- A face cord or short cord is not silently treated as a full cord; enter its actual stacked dimensions.
- Confirm the seller's measurement convention and local firewood rules before purchase or transport.
