Formula: Consumer surplus = ½ × (maximum willingness to pay − market price) × quantity purchased.
Consumer surplus describes the difference between what buyers would have been willing to pay and what they pay, represented here by the area of a triangle. The calculator makes the straight-line demand assumption visible instead of pretending that every market has the same curve.
