Formula and methodology
Formula: Expand shorthand hex pairs, divide sRGB channels by 255, then derive HSL hue, saturation, and lightness; relative luminance uses the sRGB transfer curve.
Hex colors store red, green, and blue channel bytes. This tool decodes those bytes, converts the opaque color to the cylindrical HSL description, and reports alpha when supplied. Luminance is a relative screen-color measure, not a brightness guarantee on every display.

Assumptions and limits
- The input is an sRGB hexadecimal color token, not a device-specific profile.
- Three- and four-digit forms expand each nibble, while eight digits interpret the final pair as alpha.
- Relative luminance follows the WCAG-style sRGB channel linearization and is not a contrast ratio by itself.
