Formula and methodology
Formula: xCM = (Wrear/Wtotal)L from the front axle; Wtotal = Wfront + Wrear; front fraction = Wfront/Wtotal.
Static axle loads provide the balancing moments needed to locate the longitudinal center of mass. If the rear axle carries a larger fraction of the total supported load, the center of mass lies closer to the rear axle.

Assumptions and limits
- The vehicle is stationary on a level surface with both axle reactions measured in the same force unit.
- The load model is one-dimensional along the wheelbase and ignores tire contact-patch distribution, suspension compliance, slope, and aerodynamic forces.
- The returned position is measured from the front axle and is a static balance estimate, not a full three-dimensional vehicle center of gravity.
