Formula and methodology
Formula: Peak output=max(0,√2×AC RMS−2×diode drop); ideal average full-wave output=2×peak/π.
The result uses a simple two-diode-drop bridge approximation and keeps the ideal average waveform relation separate from filtered DC behavior.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- AC RMS voltage — minimum 0; maximum 1000000000
- Forward drop per diode — minimum 0; maximum 1000000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| AC RMS voltage | 12 |
| Forward drop per diode | 0.7 |
Peak output ≈15.57 V; average output ≈9.91 V.
Assumptions and limits
- The AC value is RMS voltage and the two conducting diodes have the same constant drop.
- A sinusoidal source and resistive load are assumed.
- Ripple, transformer impedance, diode curve, capacitor filtering, load current, and ratings are not modeled.
