Formula and methodology
Formula: Ideal boost voltage = Vin/(1−D); input current = output power/(Vin × efficiency), with D and efficiency as fractions.
The estimate applies the continuous-conduction ideal boost relation and then accounts for efficiency in the power balance.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Input voltage — V; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- Duty cycle — %; minimum 0; maximum 99.999999
- Converter efficiency — %; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 100
- Output current — A; minimum 0; maximum 1000000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Input voltage | 12 |
| Duty cycle | 50 |
| Converter efficiency | 90 |
| Output current | 2 |
Ideal output = 24 V; input current ≈ 4.444 A.
Assumptions and limits
- Input voltage is positive; duty cycle is below 100 percent and efficiency is positive.
- The converter is treated as steady state with the entered output current.
- Inductor ripple, switching losses, limits, thermal design, control stability, and component ratings are not modeled.
