Formula and methodology
Formula: Adjusted alpha = alpha/m; adjusted p-value = min(mp, 1).
The Bonferroni method controls a family-wise error bound by dividing the chosen significance level across a stated number of comparisons. It is conservative and does not replace a complete study-design or model review.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Unadjusted alpha — minimum 1.0E-9; maximum 1
- Number of comparisons — minimum 1; maximum 1000000
- Observed p-value — minimum 0; maximum 1
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Unadjusted alpha | 0.05 |
| Number of comparisons | 5 |
| Observed p-value | 0.01 |
Adjusted alpha 0.01; adjusted p-value 0.05.
Assumptions and limits
- The number of comparisons represents the family of tests being corrected.
- Alpha and the p-value are probabilities between zero and one.
- The output does not calculate a test statistic, effect size, confidence interval, or statistical power.
