Formula and methodology
Formula: 1/T₂ = 1/T₁ − (R/ΔHvap)ln(P₂/P₁); boiling temperature is the temperature where vapor pressure equals target pressure.
The model changes a known vapor-pressure point to another pressure while treating enthalpy of vaporization as constant over the interval.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Reference temperature — K; minimum 1; maximum 3000
- Reference vapor pressure — Pa; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000000
- Enthalpy of vaporization — J/mol; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- Target pressure — Pa; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Reference temperature | 373.15 |
| Reference vapor pressure | 101325 |
| Enthalpy of vaporization | 40650 |
| Target pressure | 80000 |
Estimated boiling temperature ≈ 366.54 K, or 93.39 °C.
Assumptions and limits
- Temperature is absolute kelvin, pressure is absolute pascals, and the vapor behaves closely enough to the Clausius–Clapeyron approximation.
- Enthalpy of vaporization is treated as constant and the liquid-vapor transition remains in the same regime.
- Mixture behavior, nonideality, critical-point effects, and a complete vapor-pressure correlation are outside the model.
