Formula and methodology
Formula: heat input watts=volume×temperature rise×loss factor/efficiency; kilowatts=watts/1000.
This scenario estimates a nominal heat input from a simplified volume-based loss factor. A real heating design considers envelope U-values, ventilation, solar gains, weather data, zoning, emitters, and local requirements.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Heated length — minimum 0.1; maximum 1000
- Heated width — minimum 0.1; maximum 1000
- Ceiling height — minimum 0.1; maximum 100
- Design temperature rise (°C) — minimum 0.1; maximum 100
- Heat-loss factor (W/m³·K) — minimum 0.001; maximum 100
- Boiler efficiency — minimum 0.1; maximum 1
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Heated length | 10 |
| Heated width | 8 |
| Ceiling height | 2.5 |
| Design temperature rise (°C) | 25 |
| Heat-loss factor (W/m³·K) | 1.5 |
| Boiler efficiency | 0.9 |
Nominal input ≈8.333 kW.
Assumptions and limits
- All dimensions are in one consistent length unit; the result treats them as metres for the displayed kilowatt interpretation.
- The heat-loss factor is supplied by the user and represents a simplified design assumption.
- This is not equipment sizing, combustion approval, or a substitute for a qualified heat-loss calculation.
