Formula and methodology
Formula: moving speed=distance/(moving time/60); elapsed speed=distance/((moving time+stops)/60); moving pace=moving time/distance.
Cycling computers often distinguish moving and elapsed averages. Keeping stop time as a separate field shows why two riders can cover the same route with different displayed speeds.
