Formula and methodology
Formula: BA = 2π(A/360)(R + Kt); flat length = leg A + leg B + BA.
Bend allowance estimates the neutral-axis arc length so a flat blank can be compared with the finished straight legs. The K-factor remains an explicit material and tooling assumption.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Bend angle — °; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 179.999999
- Inside bend radius — length; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- Material thickness — length; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- K-factor — minimum 0; maximum 1
- Straight leg A — length; minimum 0; maximum 1000000
- Straight leg B — length; minimum 0; maximum 1000000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Bend angle | 90 |
| Inside bend radius | 2 |
| Material thickness | 1 |
| K-factor | 0.33 |
| Straight leg A | 50 |
| Straight leg B | 50 |
Bend allowance is about 3.66 length units; flat length is about 103.66.
Assumptions and limits
- Angle is the included bend angle used by the selected convention, and all length inputs share one unit.
- K-factor is supplied for the material, tooling, and forming method; it is not inferred from a generic table.
- Springback, thinning, tooling radius, minimum bend radius, material strength, and manufacturing tolerances are not approved by this estimate.
