Formula and methodology
Formula: Beighton score = fifth-finger points + thumb points + elbow points + knee points + palms-to-floor point; paired maneuvers contribute 0–2 and the forward bend contributes 0–1, for 0–9.
The page turns the five examination findings into the traditional nine-point arithmetic and reports each contribution. It intentionally does not apply one universal cutoff because interpretation varies with age, sex, history, examination technique, and the clinical question.

Assumptions and limits
- The inputs are observations made by a trained assessor using the intended maneuver definitions.
- A paired joint finding contributes one point per side, not one point for the pair as a whole.
- The forward-bend finding contributes one point and has no left/right split.
- The score is limited to nine points and does not include other joints, skin features, pain, injury, or family history.
- A positive or high score is a screening finding and does not establish a connective-tissue diagnosis.
- Painful, unstable, injured, or recently operated joints should not be forced to reproduce a score.
- Cutoffs can differ by age and clinical framework; this page does not hard-code a diagnosis threshold.
- Clinical interpretation requires a complete history and examination by an appropriately qualified professional.
