Formula and methodology
Formula: Base cups = games × 2 × cups per side; planned cups = ceil(base cups × (1 + spare allowance/100)); beverage volume = planned cups × cup volume × fill fraction/100; balls = games × balls per game.
This is a setup and purchasing estimate. It keeps the number of games, cups on each side, fill level, and spare allowance visible so a host can adapt the plan to the local cup size and house rules without treating one party convention as universal.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Games or rounds — games; minimum 1; maximum 100000
- Cups per side — cups; minimum 1; maximum 1000
- Volume per cup — mL; minimum 1; maximum 5000
- Fill fraction — % of cup; minimum 0; maximum 100
- Spare-cup allowance — %; minimum 0; maximum 500
- Balls per game — balls; minimum 1; maximum 100
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Games or rounds | 4 |
| Cups per side | 10 |
| Volume per cup | 473 |
| Fill fraction | 25 |
| Spare-cup allowance | 10 |
| Balls per game | 3 |
Base requirement = 80 cups; plan for 88 cups, about 10.406 L at the entered fill level, and 12 balls.
Assumptions and limits
- Each game uses two sides with the same entered number of cups.
- The fill fraction is a planning volume and does not describe a serving recommendation or a legal drinking limit.
- The spare allowance is rounded upward to whole cups after the base requirement is calculated.
- Every game consumes the entered number of balls for replacement and loss planning; reuse and house rules can change that number.
- Cup volume is entered in millilitres and is converted to litres only for the summary.
- The page does not advise underage drinking, intoxication, driving, alcohol service, or venue compliance; follow local law and responsible-hosting guidance.
