Formula and methodology
Formula: Particles = moles × Nₐ, where Nₐ = 6.02214076 × 10²³ mol⁻¹; mass = moles × molar mass.
The Avogadro constant bridges a count of entities and an amount in moles. A molar mass then bridges moles and grams, making the three quantities visible without pretending that a particle count identifies which substance was counted.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Known amount — 2 choices
- Amount — minimum 0; maximum 1.0E+30
- Molar mass — g/mol; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Known amount | particles |
| Amount | 6.02214076E+23 |
| Molar mass | 18.015 |
1 mol and 18.015 g
Assumptions and limits
- Particles means a count of the selected entity type—atoms, molecules, ions, or formula units.
- Molar mass is supplied in grams per mole and applies to the same entity type.
- The calculation is exact at the defined Avogadro constant but displayed with finite numeric precision.
