Formula and methodology
Formula: ANC = white blood cell count × (segmented-neutrophil percentage + band-neutrophil percentage) ÷ 100. The percentage fields are combined before multiplication.
This worksheet converts a differential count into an absolute neutrophil count and shows the contribution of mature segmented neutrophils and bands separately. The result is a laboratory arithmetic value, not a diagnosis or a universal infection-risk decision.

ANC = 5,000 × (55 + 1) ÷ 100 = 2,800 cells/µL.
Assumptions and limits
- The white-cell count is reported in cells per microlitre (the same numeric unit as cells per mm³).
- Segmented neutrophils and bands are percentages of the same white-cell differential.
- The two entered percentages describe neutrophil components and are not silently converted from decimal fractions.
- The combined percentage must not exceed 100%.
- A laboratory report may use a different differential label or may report an absolute neutrophil value directly.
- Reference intervals and clinical thresholds vary with age, laboratory method, disease, treatment, and clinical context.
- This page does not interpret fever, infection risk, chemotherapy decisions, or isolation requirements.
