Formula and methodology
Formula: Aldrete score = activity + respiration + circulation + consciousness + oxygenation; each domain contributes 0, 1, or 2 points and the maximum is 10.
This worksheet preserves the five selected domains and their points before showing the total. It also shows the commonly referenced eight-point line as a context marker, while leaving the actual recovery and discharge decision to the clinical team.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Activity — 3 choices
- Respiration — 3 choices
- Circulation compared with pre-anesthetic baseline — 3 choices
- Consciousness — 3 choices
- Oxygenation — 3 choices
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Activity | one |
| Respiration | one |
| Circulation compared with pre-anesthetic baseline | two |
| Consciousness | two |
| Oxygenation | two |
1 + 1 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 8 points; the page marks the score as at or above the reference line.
Assumptions and limits
- Each domain is scored from an observed assessment using the selected convention.
- Circulation is compared with the patient's documented pre-anesthetic baseline, not an assumed population average.
- Oxygenation scoring depends on whether supplemental oxygen is being used.
- The five-domain score does not capture every airway, pain, bleeding, neurologic, or procedural concern.
- A score is a clinical aid and not a stand-alone discharge order.
- The page is educational and is not a substitute for monitored recovery care.
