Formula and methodology
Formula: Average acceleration = (v₂−v₁)/t; constant-acceleration displacement = (v₁+v₂)t/2.
The first result is the velocity-change rate; the displacement result applies the constant-acceleration average-velocity relation.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Initial velocity — m/s; minimum -1000000; maximum 1000000
- Final velocity — m/s; minimum -1000000; maximum 1000000
- Elapsed time — s; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Initial velocity | 0 |
| Final velocity | 20 |
| Elapsed time | 5 |
Acceleration = 4 m/s²; displacement = 50 m.
Assumptions and limits
- Velocities use metres per second and time is positive seconds.
- The displacement estimate assumes constant acceleration over the interval.
- Direction, drag, force, and changing acceleration within the interval are not modeled.
