Formula and methodology
Formula: I = Pout/(√3 × Vline × PF × η), with output power converted from kW to W and efficiency expressed as a fraction.
The result estimates balanced three-phase line current while keeping power factor and motor efficiency visible instead of treating electrical input as equal to shaft output.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Motor output power — kW; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- Line-to-line voltage — V; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- Power factor — minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1
- Motor efficiency — %; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 100
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Motor output power | 7.5 |
| Line-to-line voltage | 400 |
| Power factor | 0.85 |
| Motor efficiency | 90 |
Estimated line current is about 14.2 A.
Assumptions and limits
- Voltage is RMS line-to-line voltage and power factor is a positive fraction not greater than one.
- The motor is balanced and the entered efficiency is a visitor-supplied operating assumption.
- Starting current, harmonics, voltage drop, conductor sizing, protection, and electrical-code approval are not modeled.
